Let Buyers Design Their Outdoor Kitchen in 3D: The Bull BBQ Customizer
An outdoor kitchen is a big purchase with a lot of choices: countertop, veneer, layout. Most buyers have to picture the finished island from a few catalog photos and a swatch card. That gap between “what I picked” and “what I’ll actually get” is where big-ticket sales stall.
A 3D customizer closes that gap. You already know the pattern from buying a car online: change the paint, swap the wheels, spin the car around. We built the same experience for a backyard BBQ island.
What we built
Working with NPT, we created the Bull BBQ Customizer, a web-based 3D configurator for a Bull BBQ outdoor kitchen island. Shoppers choose the countertop and veneer and see the change instantly on a detailed 3D model they can rotate and inspect from any angle, not just a preset hero shot.
From the screen to the backyard
A customizer answers “what will it look like?” The next question is “how will it look here?” So we extended the experience with an Instagram AR filter that places the BBQ island in the buyer’s own backyard.
How it works
- A detailed 3D model of the island, built for the web.
- Sketchfab’s API swaps the countertop and veneer textures in real time, in any modern browser, with no app to download.
- An Instagram AR filter puts the island in the buyer’s space, on a platform they already use.
Who this is for
If your product has a lot of options and a high price tag (pools, outdoor living, furniture, equipment), a 3D customizer lets buyers explore every combination on their own time and arrive at a showroom or sales call already knowing what they want. It also gives your team a reusable 3D asset that can grow into AR, VR or a showroom projection later.
